Interpreter's Adaptation and Selection in the ‘Triple Contextual Categories' (TCC) of International Communication

Abstract:
It has been one of the long-standing and controversial questions in Translation Studies whether literary style is translatable or not. This paper, based on some theories of modern stylistics, explores the transferences of style markets at phonological, lexical and syntactic level, arguing that many original style markets can be detected and described, and then, by and large, successfully translated into the target text. But this does not mean that literary style can be translated in essence or as a whole, viz. theoretically speaking, literary style is translatable, but the translatability is limited.
